Finding the Right Strap-On

One of the most versatile sex toys on the market, Strap-Ons have risen in popularity over the years as more and more couples discover the pleasure to be had with them.

Ideal for those looking to explore different power dynamics in the bedroom, Strap-Ons provide the tools needed to help swap the roles and increase the pleasure.

Why do people use Strap-Ons?

Strap-Ons are generally considered to be a harness with an attached dildo or penetrating feature. Primarily used in couple’s play, Strap-Ons allow any individual to penetrate another.

There are many reasons why someone may choose to use a Strap-On, and these are not limited to female use either. Some reasons couples may use a Strap-On are:

  • To switch up roles, a non-penis-owning individual may use a Strap-On to penetrate another person.
  • To engage in hands-free penetration, some couples may want to use a Strap-On to keep their hands free from holding a dildo or other sex toy.
  • To go for round two. Some penis-owning individuals may want to penetrate their partner twice, but may not want to use their penis to do so.
  • Help with erectile dysfunction. Penis-owning individuals who struggle to keep an erection may want to penetrate their partner without using their own penis.

These reasons, and many more, make Strap-Ons incredibly useful and versatile in the bedroom. Like any sex toy, how you use it is up to you!

Choosing the right Strap-On

There are a few different types of Strap-Ons depending on what type of stimulation you and your partner are looking for.

Standard Strap-Ons

A standard Strap-On is the typical, common Strap-On you would usually see in most sex shops. A harness and detachable dildo are included so you can swap out the attachment for something smaller or larger without needing to buy a whole new harness.

Often with an adjustable fit, Strap-On harnesses focus on comfort for the wearer and keep the dildo in place during penetration for hands-free fun.

Be careful when choosing a new attachment however, not all dildos will fit all harnesses, and you need to look at the O-ring diameter of the harness to see if your dildo will snugly fit without falling out.strapless strap on

Strapless Strap-Ons

Strapless Strap-Ons are, you guessed it, Strap-Ons without a strap. These sex toys work by inserting the ‘love egg’ portion of the Strap-On into the vagina, leaving the dildo portion out for penetration.

These Strap-Ons are unique, as they can provide vibrations or other stimulation to the wearer during use, double the fun!

Attachments and Dildos

As we mentioned earlier, harnesses can often be used with other dildos and attachments to switch up the size and type of penetrating shaft.

Depending on your personal preference, there are many different types of dildos which are compatible with Strap-On harnesses to allow for varied fun during use.

Standard Dildos offer a realistic experience with a textured design and flared base to attach the dildo to the harness’ O-ring.

Non-phallic Dildos are great for those wanting a non-realistic Strap-On attachment. These dildos provide a smooth surface, ideal for beginners wanting to test the waters with Strap-On penetration.

Hollow Dildos allow for a penis-owning wearer to insert their own penis into the dildo to add additional girth and length. Some hollow attachments also come with vibrating features for added stimulation.

Using a Strap-On

As with any sex toy, we recommend using plenty of lubricant when using your Strap-On, especially if you’re using it for anal sex.

Always ensure that the harness is comfortable and sturdy on the wearer to prevent it from slipping out of place during use. Most harnesses are adjustable, so make sure the straps are tight enough and stop if you feel the harness slipping from you.

When using a dildo or other attachment, feed it through the O-ring of the harness, (some harnesses have a removable section to make this easier) and make sure it can’t slip out. Always remove your attachment after use and thoroughly clean it using a Sex Toy Cleaner, and remember to never use the same attachment or dildo or both vaginal and anal penetration due to hygiene reasons.
